‘What it says on the tin’ - Wolves midfielder hailed as Mr Consistent

Wolves legend Andy Thompson has delivered his verdict on Brazilian midfielder Andre.

Wolves legend Andy Thompson has hailed Andre as Mr Consistent after an impressive start to the season.

The 25-year-old Brazilian international has been a mainstay in Wolves’ midfield this season and is closing in on 100 appearances for the club.

In May, following Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League, Andre signed a new deal until 2030, with the option of a further year, committing his future to the Old Gold as they look to secure an immediate return to the top flight.

And club legend Thompson has been impressed by the midfielder’s performances, praising his consistency and work rate.

Speaking on the Express & Star’s Wolves Podcast, he said: “He is consistent, isn’t he. He has been consistent all season so far.

“You know what you are getting with him. He is a player that does what it says on the tin. You know what he is going to do.

“He does everything right, nice and easy, little break ups of play, passing, keeps the ball moving. But he is very effective.

“I have been really pleased with the way that he has come into this season. A lot of people might have got their heads down after getting relegated, but he hasn’t. He has continued to keep going, you can see the passion that he has got, he wants to win everything.

“If you have a defensive midfielder like Andre in there, you know that he is going to do a job for you and everything he can to break things up. He has been very consistent this year.”

Andre has regularly partnered Marshall Munetsi in midfield this season, although Wolves have also explored other combinations, with Jordan James among those deployed in the engine room.

In last Saturday’s victory over Cardiff City at Molineux, Andre lined up alongside Munetsi, with James operating in a more advanced role. Fer Lopez started on the right, with Rafiki Said on the left.

Thompson also praised the impact of Lopez, highlighting his understanding with right-back Kieran Trippier.

“I know people probably questioned Fer Lopez playing on the right side with Trippier behind him, but I thought the relationship between them was there to see,” he added.

“What I do like about Lopez is that he comes inside. All of a sudden he sees a different picture with his left foot. He likes to run across with the ball and can pick those passes out. He got the timing right for his headed goal as well coming from that right side.”
