A reported summer transfer target has said ‘let’s see what happens’ amid talk of a move to West Brom.

West Brom linked winger Josh Murphy wants to play at the highest level, but has admitted that there is no decision imminent from on his future.

The 29-year-old helped Oxford United reach the Championship for the first time in 25-years as his brace defeated favourites Bolton Wanderers. Murphy finished the season with 10 goals and six assists, and that has attracted the attention from second tier clubs.

It was reported by the Sun in April that Murphy was watched by the Baggies along with Southampton, QPR, Sunderland and Hull City. Minnesota United from the MLS are also said to be keen.

“I want to play as high as I can. I think I owe it to myself, to my family, and to the club," said Murphy to the Oxford Mail.

"We’re in the Championship now, so let’s see what happens.

“I just want to take my mind off everything. It’s been a long season, a tough season, and I just want to enjoy myself."

Murphy is out of contract this summer, and the player has yet to make a decision on whether he will remain with Oxford. He contemplated retiring before joining them, however he has found himself enjoying football again, however he does hold ambitions of playing at the highest level he can.

Southampton would be able to offer that should they beat Leeds United in the play-off final on Sunday. West Brom competed in the Championship play-offs with Hull then finishing seventh, whilst Sunderland finished mid-table and QPR concluded the campaign in a good run of form.

Des Buckingham, who Murphy has spoken highly about, is keen to extend his stay at the Kassam Stadium. Murphy in an interview in April said he 'loved' Buckingham and said that the style of play and the position he played in was perfect for him.

“We’ll do as much as we can to try and keep Josh here," said Buckingham.

"He’s a wonderful person, a very good player, and he suits the way we want to do things. We’ll do as much as we can and see where that takes us.”
