West Brom, Leicester City, Bristol City and Hull City linked star released by Championship rivals

Huddersfield Town have released a player linked with a move to West Brom and another Championship team in the January transfer window.
French outlet Foot Mercato reported at the end of January that the Baggies along with Bristol City held an interest in signing Brahima Diarra. An unnamed Ligue One club was also added to the list of suitors as well as 10 other Championship teams.

The latest update though comes from Huddersfield Town themselves after they published their retained list last week. Huddersfield suffered relegation from the Championship and have opted to move on five players with first-team appearances.
Diarra was told along with Jordan Rhodes, Yuta Nakayama, Connor Mahoney and Aaron Rowe that their contracts would not be extended at the John Smith’s Stadium. The Terriers recently appointed former Barnsley, Cheltenham Town and Swansea City boss Michael Duff, and he will have the chance to assemble his own squad.
In the publication of their retained list, Huddersfield did make a note that despite Diarra leaving on a free transfer, the club will be due compensation for playing a role in his development. Diarra joined Huddersfield as a teenager after joining from AC Boulogne-Billancourt in the summer of 2019.

The five time Mali under-23 international was mainly a substitute and made five league starts with two assists this term. Diarra last played a competitive match for the club on February 24 as a three-minute substitute in a win against Watford, but then did not appear in any of the match day squads for the final six games of Huddersfield’s campaign.
