Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has already made it very clear that young hot-shot striker Cameron Archer ‘won’t be available for a loan’ next season.

West Brom have been heavily linked for a loan move for Archer in recent weeks and whilst things can of course change in football, Gerrard appears to have ruled that out as a possibility.

The Villa striker spent time last season on loan at Preston North End in the Championship, with media reports suggesting that Villa want to place Archer with a promotion-chasing second-tier side to further develop him. The 20-year-old forward is attracting interest from around England’s top two tiers and that interest is only growing further every time he sets foot onto a football pitch.

After a successful second-half of the season with Championship side Preston North End, Archer continued his impressive form post-season, bagging four goals in as many games for the England U21s this month.

And it’s now looking likely that he will return to fight for a place among the Villa first team, though that isn’t stopping the rumours swirling with Albion being touted as a likely destination.

However, if a move is to happen, Gerrard has already stated that it will have to be for big money.

Speaking back in April, the Villa boss said: “Ryan [Lowe] phoned me two days ago and asked for him back next season.”

“I told him to tell Peter Ridsdale to get his naughts out if he’s wanting him on a full-time basis!

“I also said that he won’t be available for a loan because the idea of the loan is to give him some experience to get him back in the group and to have a positive pre-season.

“I want more forward options in the number nine position, if you like, so we’ll analyse Cam in pre-season and we’ll make the decision from there. He’s a big, bright prospect here.

“Ryan’s done a good job with him. Preston have given him a really good opportunity to be fair but everyone wants Cam Archer and everyone wants Keinan Davis!”
