Christmas 2021 will see the return of the popular outdoor ice rink and big wheel to Centenary Square.

Riding the wheel at the Ice Skate Birmingham site will give you the opportunity to enjoy the fantastic panoramic views of the city including some of our most impressive sights, such as the Library of Birmingham, Council House, Town Hall, Cube, Brindley Place and the Birmingham German Christmas Market.

You can also experience the magic of ice skating outdoors in the heart of Birmingham right next to the big wheel, and feel like you’re in a scene from a Hollywood film on 600 sq metres of real ice!

And the ice rink comes with a roof, so the unpredictable weather won’t stop you from skating this year.

When does it open?

The ice rink and big wheel will open at the same time as Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market in Centenary Square on 4 November, and will be open from 10am to 10pm daily until 16 January 2022, except Christmas Day (subject to Covid-19 restrictions).

Christmas market

The return of Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market alongside the big wheel and ice rink will ensure that the centre of Birmingham is once again transformed into a festive wonderland after last year’s festivities in the city had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.

Birmingham City Council has confirmed that the market will return to Victoria Square and New Street this year on November 4 and will run until December 23, from 10am to 9pm daily, except on Remembrance Sunday (November 14), when the market will be open from 1pm to 9pm.

You can book tickets for the Big Wheel and ice rink here.
