Experience the Flying Scotsman at 75mph from Birmingham this February
This is a big deal for Birmingham!
The world’s most famous steam locomotive, Flying Scotsman, will return to the national rail network this February, operating at express speeds of up to 75mph.
The runs are being operated exclusively by Vintage Trains and will take place on just three days during the month. Unlike a typical heritage railway outing or static museum display, these services will see Flying Scotsman running on the mainline, sharing the network with modern trains.
Passengers will depart from Birmingham Moor Street, travelling behind the iconic locomotive as it reaches speeds up to three times faster than those permitted on heritage railways. Organisers say the trips are designed to offer a rare chance to experience mainline steam as it was originally intended.
Both first class and standard class seating are available. With limited dates and capacity, seats are selling quickly, and once sold out, no additional services are planned.
Further details, including dates and ticket availability, can be found through Vintage Trains.
