Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly set to see off interest from a whole host of Premier League clubs to win the race to sign Bristol City’s highly-rated midfielder Alex Scott.

The England Under-20 international has become one of the Championship’s hottest properties over the last 12 months after producing a whole host of eye-catching performances for Nigel Pearson’s side. Scott scored two goals and provided five assists in 49 appearances in all competitions as a plethora of scouts from Premier League clubs made their way to Ashton Gate to monitor his progress.

Scott also caught the eye of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola after the youngster impressed for the Robins in an FA Cup tie against the treble winners.

Speaking to BristolWorld following his side’s win at Ashton Gate in February, the Spaniard said: “They’re a solid team and they are so aggressive. They win their duels. (Matty) James is a really good player, the young Alex Scott is apparently a young talented player as well.”

The race to secure Scott during the summer transfer window got underway when Bournemouth had a £15million offer rejected by the Robins earlier this month. That was followed up by two unsuccessful bids from Wolves but it now looks to be a case of third-time lucky for the Molineux club after Football Insider revealed a deal is ‘not miles away’ for the £25million-rated midfielder.

The report suggests City chairman Jon Lansdown is determined to hold out for £25million for the club’s prize asset and suggests Wolves could match that demand to make Scott their third signing of the summer transfer window.
