Wolves are reportedly looking at Brentford's Yoane Wissa as a potential replacement for Pedro Neto

According to the Telegraph, talks between Wolves and the Bees are ongoing about a potential transfer. Wissa is on a shortlist that Wolves are drawing up as they prepare for the final two weeks of the summer transfer window. A transfer fee hasn't been mentioned by Mike McGrath, the journalist that broke the news, but Wolves do have the financial firepower after the £54m sale of Pedro Neto to Chelsea.

Wissa is a versatile attacker that is capable of playing anywhere across the front line. The 27-year-old was entrusted to lead the line last for Thomas Frank’s men season and got 12 goals in 34 Premier League games for the West London outfit.

He is under contract at the Gtech Community Stadium until the summer of 2026, and so Brentford at least have some leeway when it comes to their negotiating position. Only England international Ivan Toney has scored more Premier League goals for Brentford than Wissa, since he joined from French side Lorient in the summer of 2021.

Brentford had added to their forward line this summer with the arrival of Igor Thiago for a club-record £30m, but he suffered a meniscus injury which ruled him out for the remainder of 2024. Bryan Mbeumo could provide him competition for that starting spot as well as Ivan Toney, but the latter has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

As for Wolves, Gary O'Neil was already able to land a striker this summer following the arrival of Jorgen Strand Larsen from Celta Vigo. Wolves have Matheus Cunha and Hwang hee-Chan who can also play in a central attacking role. Neto suffered with injuries last season, but Wolves will still need to replace his nine assists and two goals from last season.

Wissa, a 27-cap DR Congo international, has made 110 appearances to date for Brentford, and has a record of 29 goals and eight assists. If Wolves did make an approach for Wissa, then he would have stiff competition for a starting spot, thankfully there are no Africa Cup of Nations this season, and so he wouldn’t miss any games because of international duty.
