Hide AdFrench newspaper Foot Mercato is reporting that there is an 'acceptance' that O'Brien will leave in this transfer window, despite only signing last summer. He was signed for only €1m from Crystal Palace but could be sold for a significant profit with Brentford making an enquiry whilst Everton, Nottingham Forest, and Wolves have also been keeping tabs.
The Republic of Ireland defender is under contract at the Parc Olympique until the summer of 2027, so they will command a considerable fee. Earlier this month it was reported that Wolves had cooled their interest because Lyon set an asking price of £25m.
O'Brien was voted Get French Football News' signing of the season in League One, and his five goals and two assists in 32 games backed up that accolade. For some reason, it seems like he does not feature in Pierre Sage's plans for the upcoming campaign, and a return to England looks to be on the cards.

Hide AdA move looks to be confirmed in the coming days with the French club not willing to risk him ahead of a possible transfer. O'Brien was named as a substitute as Lyon lost 1-0 to Bundesliga outfit St. Pauli, but did not come off the bench. They have a game against Torino on July 31, but O'Brien might have already been moved on by then if media reports are anything to go by.
Before joining Lyon, O'Brien started his career in his home country of Ireland with Cork City. He made his debut for them at a young age and was loaned out to Crystal Palace, where he played for their under-21s team and then he was signed permanently.
During his time at Selhurst Park he was sent out on loan to Swindon Town and their sister club RWD Molenbeek, proving to be a big success in Belgium as he helped his side win the second tier league title. Last season, O'Brien featured in a Lyon side that reached the Coupe de France final, scoring as they lost 2-1 to PSG.
