Wolves are not expected to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale after the deal reportedly fell through.

According to the BBC journalist Nick Mashiter, the move is off. A deal proved too expensive for Wolves, and is now consider ‘over’. A loan offer was submitted to the Gunners last week with an option to buy for £20m, and the two clubs remained in talks, but now a deal is dead in the water.

The 26-year-old has remained as backup choice for Arsenal after they signed David Raya from Brentford on a permanent deal this summer. Ramsdale has been an unused substitute in the 2-0 wins over Wolves and Aston Villa so far this term.

Arsenal signed Tommy Setford from Ajax in a deal worth around £1m in July, and according to The Athletic have also earmarked a move for Espanyol's Joan Garcia. The North London club would also like to sign an experienced homegrown goalkeeper as their third choice.

Last week it was reported that Southampton were considering making a move for Ramsdale, but they are close to signing Justin Bijlow from Feyenoord according to Fabrizio Romano

It leaves Ramsdale, who signed from Sheffield United for a reported £24m in 2021, in a state of limbo as two of his possible exit options have now seemingly closed. The BBC add that Ramsdale is seeking first-team football opportunities and might still depart, but a move to Molineux is unlikely to be resurrected.

The summer transfer window shuts on Friday, August 30 at 11.00 pm, and now Wolves will have to turn their attention to alternative targets after moving on from Ramsdale. A centre-back and winger remains the priority following the sales of Max Kilman and Pedro Neto.

According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is still being considered. Johnstone had the number one shirt taken off of him with Dean Henderson now Oliver Glasner's first-choice option at Selhurst Park. The 31-year-old has been an unused substitute for the first two games of the season.
