Villa’s pre-season tour of Australia gets underway against Leeds this weekend

Aston Villa get their pre-season tour of Australia underway when they take on Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United this weekend.

Villa’s pre-season tour Down Under will see them face fellow Premier League sides Leeds and Manchester United, as well as Brisbane Roar in the coming days. Steven Gerrard’s men beat Walsall 4-0 in their first pre-season friendly last week, and the Villa boss will be eager for his side to maintain their form as they prepare for the upcoming season.

New signing Diego Carlos made his Villa debut during the clash with Walsall at the Poundland Bescot Stadium. The Brazilian will feature for Villa during their Australian tour, and Gerrard is also expected to give the club’s other new signing Boubacar Kamara his debut.

Aston Villa vs Leeds United will take place at athe Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, with a kick-off time of 5.35am on Sunday, 17 July.

Gerrard should have a fuly fit squad to choose from for the tour. He is the squad he has brought to Australia:

Defenders: Ashley Young, Tyrone Mings, Lucas Digne, Ezri Konsa, Calum Chambers, Diego Carlos, Matty Cash, Frederic Guilbert, Ludwig Augustinsson, Josh Feeney, Kaine Kesler Hayden, Ben Chrisene. Midfielders: Philippe Coutinho, Boubacar Kamara, Douglas Luiz, John McGinn, Jacob Ramsey, Emiliano Buendía, Leon Bailey, Marvelous Nakamba, Morgan Sanson, Bertrand Traoré, Jaden Philogene-Bidace, Tim Iroegbunam, Aaron Ramsey. Forwards: Ollie Watkins, Danny Ings, Keinan Davis, Cameron Archer.

Leeds will be without left-back Junior Firpo who will be out for eight weeks, although Patrick Bamford could start for Marsch’s side after he came off this substitutes bench during their 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar on Thursday (14 July).

Head-to-head

Villa beat Leeds 3-0 at Elland Road last season after a dominant performance which saw goals from Philippe Coutinho, Matty Cash and Calum Chambers. The score was 3-3 in the reverse fixture at Villa Park.
