Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest are reportedly working on a deal to take Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis back to the City Ground.

The 24-year-old frontman spent the second half of last season on loan with Steve Cooper’s side and scored five goals and provided three assists in 22 appearances as Forest secured a return to the Premier League.

Davis played for the first 66 minutes of their play-off final win against Huddersfield Town and received praise from Forest boss Cooper throughout his time at the City Ground.

Speaking to The Athletic in April, he said: “Keinan is an excellent footballer.

“He is a strong, strong boy. He has good feet and he can see a pass.

“What I love about him is that he is so selfless. He is such a team player, he is making an excellent contribution.

“I really believe in our attacking players.

“I want them to feel free, to make the right decisions; I want them to be creative and instinctive.”

Cooper is now said to be keen to secure Davis on a permanent deal and The Telegraph have reported talks over a move are underway.

The former Swansea City manager has already enjoyed a productive summer transfer market with Dean Henderson, Giulian Biancone, Moussa Niakhate, Neco Williams, Omar Richards and Taiwo Awoniyi all joining the club and a deal for Hudderfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien appears to be close.

However, Cooper has already received a warning from Villa manager Steven Gerrard suggesting Davis will ‘cost an awful lot of money’.

Speaking about Davis and fellow striker Cameron Archer, Gerrard said: “I want more forward options, particularly in the number nine position. We’ll analyse Cam in pre-season. We’ll then make the decision from there.

“Preston have given him a really good opportunity but everyone wants Cam Archer and everyone wants Keinan Davis. Good players cost an awful lot of money.”
