Villa are desperate to improve ahead of the new season following a disappointing 14th place finish last term.
And they need no reminding that the squad needs to be significantly stronger if Steven Gerrard is to have any chance of taking his side into the top 10.

Hide AdThe Lions have already snapped up Boubacar Kamara this summer, with the in-demand midfielder arriving on a free transfer from Marseille.
But Gerrard appears to want more, with Douglas Luiz being tipped to move on ahead of the new season.
Dean Jones told GiveMeSport: “The priority is to get a midfielder to go alongside Kamara. So that is the big fix.”
Chukwuemeka concern

Hide AdIt looked as though the Lions might keep hold of the youngster amid interest from elsewhere, but Fabrizio Romano has issued a fresh claim, suggesting Spanish giants Barcelona are interested in a deal.
“Barcelona have serious interest in English talent Carney Chukwuemeka, he’s appreciated as [a] player with huge potential,” he tweeted.
“The player is in the final year of his contract with Aston Villa and would be available for FIFA training compensation in January.”
Villa will be hoping they can keep Barca at bay.
