Aston Villa to make check on star attacker as Unai Emery admits to 'not celebrating' milestone
Villa are still assessing summer attacking recruit Johan Manzambi after his muscle injury last weekend - while the boss is preparing to mark a milestone weekend against the Premier League leaders, who were last month found guilty of 114 financial charges.
Unai Emery will make a late check on Johan Manzambi for Saturday’s visit of Manchester City - as the boss admitted to no feelings of celebration for his four-year anniversary.
Swiss star Manzambi suffered a minor muscle injury at Newcastle last weekend, where he netted the winner, and missed the midweek Champions League success.
Villa train on Friday afternoon where they will run the rule over Manzambi to see if he is fit to feature against the Premier League leaders on Saturday lunchtime.
"It is not a big injury,” Emery said of Manzambi. “But in case he doesn't feel 100 per cent comfortable, training firstly... The plan is, can you run? Can you touch the ball? This is the process."
The clash against the league leaders also marks four years at Villa Park for the Spaniard, who insists his only focus is to continue improvements on the field after a summer of change.
"I am not celebrating!" Emery smiled. "My only celebration I have is when I can have some days off or some rest."It's another day working, focusing. I can remember four years ago - my birthday is November 3, I was preparing for 24 hours. Now is the same!
"I am only trying to get better. To work more.”
