Aston Villa tipped to return for £25m target this summer amid midfielder transfer blow

Aston Villa are still picking up the pieces from their disappointing Midlands derby defeat to Wolves over the weekend.

It’s now three straight defeats for Steven Gerrard’s men, who have now dropped into the bottom half following Crystal Palcace’s win on Monday night.

Villa will now be looking for a response this weekend when they face a dangerous-looking Tottenham side at home.

Phillips problem

Villa could have a big problem in their bid to land Kalvin Phillips this summer.

Phillips has been heavily linked with a move to Villa Park in recent weeks, but it seems Newcastle are now entering the race.

The MailOnline report the Magpies are willing to offer the England midfielder as much as £125,000 per week to seal a deal this summer.

Given Newcastle’s extensive new financial resources, they could well out-muscle Villa in a transfer scrap - both in terms of the fee they can pay and the wages they’re willing to offer.

Fresh Bissouma links

Gerrard is said to be considering reviving interest in Brighton star Yves Bissouma ahead of this summer.

Villa are understood to have had a bid rejected for Bissouma in the January window, but they could now return with a fresh offer amid talk Douglas Luiz could depart.

The Telegraph claim the Midlands club are now back in the frame going into this summer after their £25million bid was rejected in January.
