Aston Villa have secured a major coup ahead of the summer transfer window, kickstarting their summer business.

Aston Villa have reached an agreement to sign in-demand Leicester City star Youri Tielemans.

The Villains have pulled off a major coup ahead of their return to Europe next season, snapping up Leicester star Tielemans on a free transfer. The midfielder, who has been linked with a number of top clubs, is out of contract at the end of June, although he was unlikely to drop down to the Championship in any case.

Tielemans, who scored the winning goal in Leicester’s FA Cup final victory two years ago, has now agreed to join Villa with Emery kicking off his summer business in style.

A club statement read: “Aston Villa is delighted to announce that the club has reached an agreement to sign Youri Tielemans.

“The Belgian international will officially become a Villan on July 1 after his contract with Leicester City has expired. Tielemans has played at the highest level throughout his career, with Anderlecht and Monaco among his former clubs, and he has most recently played in the Premier League at Leicester City, where his goal helped the Foxes win the FA Cup in 2021.

“A regular for his country on the international stage, the 26-year-old has represented Belgium at World Cup tournaments in 2018 and 2022 and at UEFA Euro 2020.”

Tielemans will now join a quickly improving Villa side that will play Europa Conference League football next season, while also hoping to fight for a top six finish in the Premier League.
