Villa enquire about striker

Villa are said to have enquired about Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas as they look to add to their front line.

“I think it’s one that’s been explored,” transfer insider Dean Jones told GIVEMESPORT.

“I think that ultimately, Steven Gerrard needs to know for sure that it definitely elevates their goal output for next season. That’s what he’s trying to make sure of, there can be no risks taken here.”

De Tomas is highly rated within La Liga and is not likely to come cheap this summer.

The young star would not agree to a new contract on Villa’s terms, leaving him in the final year of his deal.

Villa then decided they would sell to avoid losing the talent for free next year, and they asked for £20million to complete the sale.

Conveniently, £20million is what they got, agreeing a deal with Chelsea to sell the midfielder.

Villa will be disappointed to lose Chikwuemeka given his talent, but they will feel the fee is a good one given the player’s contract situation.
