Aston Villa’s ongoing contract dispute with teenage midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka is nearing its conclusion and the Villa faithful haven’t held back with their response to the situation.

After refusing to sign a new deal at Villa Park under both Dean Smith and more recently Steven Gerrard, Chukwuemeka has done little to earn himself much sympathy from those of a claret and blue contingent.

The club today released a statement which reads: ‘Aston Villa and Chelsea can confirm that the clubs have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka.

‘The 18-year-old has been given permission to travel to London to discuss both personal terms and undergo a medical.’

So, although the transfer is not yet complete, it is expected to get done as soon as is possible.

Here’s a snippet of what the Villa fans have had to say on the situation.

@VillaWatch1: ‘Carney could become a top player but I personally didn’t see anything from him during his time with us. He will be loaned out constantly and then sold, won’t ever start for Chelsea imo. Jacob Ramsey much better.’

@Dave_1874: ‘Ah yes Chelsea the club famous for giving its youngsters a chance.’

@JenBlytheSnape1: ‘His agent failed him. He’ll spend a lot more time bench warming at Stamford Bridge than he ever would for us.’

@Riv158: ‘Spoilt player, if someone don’t wanna play for the badge why make them stay. Just collect the bag instead, he was no where near Ramsey level anyway let’s be honest.’

@PuckinRight37: ‘This makes ZERO sense for Carney. Hopefully we get 15mil+. Good riddance. Was a huge fan of his but his reluctance to extend with us due to lack of playing team and then go to Chelsea is an absolute head scratcher.’

@robstaton: ‘Can’t help but disappointed by this news. Incredible talent, going to a club where first team opportunities will be severely limited.’

@villaparkpod: ‘Honestly think Tim Iroegbunam, Finn Azaz, Aaron Ramsey, Cameron Archer, not to mention Jacob Ramsey are better prospects and £20 million is great business and is what the academy is built to do. Good move all round #AVFC’

@ChrisPerrottK2: ‘If we didn’t already need another midfielder, we certainly do now.. hoping the suggested £20m goes straight into a statement signing in that area of the team #avfc’
