Team England ones to watch in Birmingham: Commonwealth Games hopefuls - from Aaron Bowen to Heather Knight

The Commonwealth Games get underway at the end of July, and athletes from across the world will soon descend on Birmingham.

Rather than have a team representing the whole of Great Britain , England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have their own team of athletes at the Commonwealth Games.

Here’s what there is to know about Team England, including the names of the athletes representing England and which sports they will take part in at the Birmingham Games.

When is the Commonwealth Games 2022?

The opening ceremony of the games takes place on Thursday, 28 July. This signals the beginning of the tournament.

A packed schedule will see the games conclude on Monday, 8 August.

In total, there will be 286 sessions of sport taking place across 11 days.

How many athletes will represent Team England?

Over 400 athletes will represent Team England at the first Commonwealth Games to be held in England for the first time in 20 years.

Which sports are being played at the Commonwealth Games 2022?

The first event of the games is due to be Lawn Bowls and Para Lawn Bowls which will get underway at Victoria Park in Leamington Spa at 8.30am on 29 July.

The opening ceremony of the games is due to begin at 7pm on Thursday, 28 July at the Alexander Stadium.

The closing ceremony will begin at 8pm on Monday, 8 August and finish at approximately 10pm.
