Solihull Half Marathon and 10k 2022: when are the races, what are the routes

The events are set to take place on Sunday (August 14) - on roads that will be closed to traffic

The countdown to the Solihull Half Marathon and 10k events is well and truly on with the even taking place this Sunday (August 14).

Here’s all you need to know ahead of race day, including where the routes will take runners and the road closures.

What is the route?

The route for the 10k run is 5k which can be completed twice. It lies in the North Solihull area and both starts and finishes at the Sports Centre athletics track.

Run Solihull, the organisers of the event, gave a brief description of the route.

A spokesperson for the group said: “A gently undulating 5km road-closed loop, starting and finishing at the North Solihull Sports Centre athletics track.

“The course follows the roads in the Chelmsley Wood & Fordbridge area, past Meriden Park & Babbs Mill Nature Reserve.

“The small inclines are all swiftly followed by declines to make sure you get your energy back! PB potential.”

The half marathon route takes in Knowle town centre, a stretch of countryside and Malvern Park.

The route also starts and finishes in Solihull town centre.

The spokesperson for Run Solihull added: “An undulating route, starting and finishing in Solihull town centre. All on closed roads and tarmac paths.

“The route starts by following New Road into Malvern Park, leaving the park via Widney Manor Road, to reach Knowle town centre.

“A countryside section through Barston and Eastcote follows, which includes the steeper inclines and declines of the course.

“The route returns to Knowle before following Widney Manor Road and Malvern Park back to Solihull town centre. PB potential.”

When are the races?

Both of the Solihull races are taking place on the same day, which is Sunday, 14 August 2022.

Starting times of the races have not been confirmed, but are expected to start between 9am and 12pm.

There will be lots to do for runners and spectators within our event village: stage with live performances, covered bag storage, charity stalls, food and drink vendors, plenty of toilets.

How can I enter?

Entry was open for both the 10k race and the half marathon this morning (Friday, August 12).

Different packages are available for both events, and each entry includes a unique themed medal, chip time results, post race goodies, and free official race photographs.

As the race is still several months away, early bird entry packages are currently displayed on the race website.

Entry packages with or without a race t-shirt are available for both the 10k race and the half marathon.

Packages are priced between £24 and £36 and can be purchased through the Run Solihull website.

How do I get there?

The races will get underway in Solihull, and the event village will be open from 7am on race day.

The town centre is accessible by car and public transport.

By car

Solihull is connected to junctions 4, 5 & 6 of the M42, connecting to the M40 and M6.

Solihull is connected to two mainline routes via Birmingham International and Solihull Station, connecting to Birmingham and London.

What roads will be closed?

Closure Period: 7.30am – 1pm anticipated timings

  • New Road - from Church Hill Road to B4102 Warwick Road

Closure Period: 8.30am to 12.10pm

  • Widney Manor Road - from Hillfield Road to Widney Road roundabout

Closure period: 8.45am - 11.45am

  • Smiths Lane - from Widney Manor Road to Browns Lane
  • Browns Lane - from Smiths Lane to Lady Byron Lane
  • Tilehouse Green Lane - from Browns Lane to Longdon Road

Closure Period 8:40am - 11:35am anticipated timings

  • Longdon Road - from Tilehouse Green Lane to Lodge Road
  • Lodge Road - from Longdon Road to A4141 Warwick Road/High Street
  • A4141 Warwick Road - from Lodge Road to B4101 Kenilworth Road

Closure Period 08:45am – 10:40am

  • Hampton Road/Knowle Road - from A4141 Warwick Road to Barston Lane

Closure Period 08:50am – 11am

  • Barston Lane - from Knowle Road to Hob Lane
  • Hob Lane - from Barston Lane to Elvers Green Lane

Closure Period 08.55am – 11:30am

  • Browns Lane - from Moorfield Avenue to Smith’s Lane

The council said these sections may be opened early in the event that all runners have passed a section but may also be subject to delay in the event of an unplanned emergency or incident which would require the road to be closed beyond the time specified.
