'Striking' West Midlands hillside hideaway named among the UK’s most irresistible autumn escapes by The Times

A hillside hideaway is highlighted as one of the UK's top autumn escapes by The Times.

A Worcestershire hillside hideaway has earned a spot on The Times’ coveted list of the “25 Best Autumn Escapes in the UK” for 2025.

The Cottage in the Wood, set high above Malvern Wells, was praised for its combination of fine food, striking views and local adventure — making it one of the West Midlands’ standout seasonal getaways.

The Times highlighted the hotel’s gourmet offering, including scallops, venison, and wild mushroom fricassee served as part of its £95, seven-course tasting menu. Guests can enjoy the experience with panoramic views over the Malvern Hills, while relaxing in stylish rooms starting from £149 per night, bed and breakfast.

Adding to the appeal, visitors can take the wheel of a hand-built, roofless Morgan Super 3 sports car, made locally in Malvern, for a scenic drive over the hills towards Ledbury — a route The Times called “magnificent.”

The Cottage in the Wood has long been celebrated for blending laid-back charm with a touch of luxury. Its inclusion on The Times list cements its reputation as one of the region’s most inviting autumn retreats.

Others on the list include two in Derbyshire: the red deer rut at Chatsworth offers a dramatic autumn spectacle, while a five-day walking & food itinerary takes in Breedon Hall B&B and The Boot gastropub in Repton, combining gentle miles with great local flavour
