The star man was a key part of ensuring that Bruno Lage’s side picked up three points from the match, a result which keeps them just five points behind the top four ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Crystal Palace on Monday night.

Jonny opened the socring for the hosts at Molineux before an Ashley Young own goal gave them a 2-0 lead going into half time.

Villa did manage to pull a goal back through a late Ollie Watkins penalty but it wasn’t enough and the home side hung on to secure the result.

Here is how Crooks’ team of the week looks and which Hammers players he selected:

Crooks selected Jose Sa between the sticks for his ‘team of the week’ after the Wolves’ stoppers excellent display against Aston Villa.

The former Spurs striker said: “What a game this was.

“Villa started it as though they’d forgot to put studs in their boots and looked like a team who were in a production of Bambi on Ice.

“Meanwhile Ollie Watkins fluffed two golden chances and didn’t seem to bat an eyelid.

“The Villa striker didn’t shy away from taking the penalty he was awarded having collided with Jose Sa.

“I thought Sa was unlucky to concede the penalty but it didn’t diminish what I thought was another outstanding performance by the Portugal international.”

It was also noted in the same article that “among goalkeepers with 500+ minutes played this season, Sa has the best save percentage in the Premier League (79%).”

Who else made Garth Crooks team of the week?

Harry Kane and Cristian Romero were selected from Spurs after they demolished Newcastle United 5-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with Romero in particular putting in an excellent display at the back.

Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling made the team from Manchester City, who beat Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor, while Brentford’s Christian Eriksen and Vitaly Janelt were also picked for their parts in the Bees’ sensational 4-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
