'They've had it' - Ex-Aston Villa striker Chris Sutton casts brutal Wolves prediction

Wolves have recently turned to Rob Edwards as their new head coach at Molineux as they look to preserve their Premier League status

Wolves picked Rob Edwards as their replacement for Vitor Pereira last month. The former Forest Green Rovers, Watford and Luton Town man left his position as head coach of Middlesbrough in the Championship to take the top job at Molineux. However, he has inherited a team who haven’t won yet this season.

The Midlands outfit are rock bottom of the Premier League table and are in the drop zone along with Burnley and Leeds United. They are nine points from safety following their defeat at Aston Villa last time out. Up next is a home clash against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.

Wolves eyeing unlikely Premier League survival story

Wolves manager Edwards has an uphill task as he looks to keep them in the top flight. They are lacking confidence and could do with some more firepower, especially at the top end of the pitch. Matheus Cunha was sold to Manchester United in the summer and he hasn’t been replaced.

Jorgen Strand Larsen was snapped up on a permanent basis after his impressive loan from Celta Vigo. He hasn’t been able to find his shooting boots in this campaign though. They are struggling to find the net and need to bring in some more quality.

Wolves will get the chance to sign some new talent in the January transfer window. They will also get the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door as well this winter. That would help free up space and funds to pave the way for reinforcements.

Their upcoming opponents Nottingham Forest are on to their third manager this term already. Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked in September and was replaced by Ange Postecoglou. The latter wasn’t able to make an impact though and Sean Dyche has since been left to pick up the pieces at the City Ground.

Former Aston Villa striker Chris Sutton drops Wolves prediction

Former Aston Villa striker Chris Sutton, who also had spells with the likes of Celtic and Blackburn Rovers, has admitted he doesn’t see how Wolves survive. He has predicted them to lose again to Nottingham Forest. The ex-attacker has said, as per BBC Sport: “Wolves actually played all right against Aston Villa on Sunday but they still lost again.

“There are six months of the season left to play but, let's face it, they've had it. They still only have two points from their first 13 games, and there is no way Rob Edwards can rescue them from here. They could bring in Pep Guardiola, Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho - three of the great Premier League managers - and they still wouldn't keep them up.

“Wolves do have something to play for, though. I didn't think any team could be as bad as Robbie Savage's Derby County side that went down with a record Premier League low of 11 points in 2007-08, so beating that total is maybe their only aim now. Nottingham Forest's defeat by Brighton on Sunday was a bit of a sickener for Sean Dyche, because he had made such a good start there. His team should be too streetwise for Wolves, though. Sutton's prediction: 0-1.”
