Wolves are reportedly ready to launch a summer swoop for Southampton striker Che Adams. According to a report by The Telegraph, the Premier League side are ‘leading’ the race for his signature at the moment.

Fellow top flight clubs Everton and Nottingham Forest are said to have shown an interest in the attacker in the past. However, they are both currently looking to avoid relegation to the Championship so their plans for the next transfer window are on ice.

Adams, 27, is out of contract at the end of this season and is due to become a free agent in late June as things stand. He is yet to put pen-to-paper on an extension with Southampton and his future with the Championship promotion hopefuls is up in the air.

His chances of staying with the Saints are likely to depend on what league they are in next term. Russell Martin’s side are sat in 4th position and are competing with Leeds United, Leicester City and Ipswich Town to go up automatically.

Wolves could see him as someone to bolster their options at the top end of the pitch for the next campaign. The Scotland international, who has 28 caps under his belt so far in his career, is an experienced player who has racked up 448 appearances.

He joined Southampton in 2019 having previously been at Sheffield United and Birmingham City and has since scored 43 goals in 180 matches, 10 of which have come this season. The Leicester-born man stayed put at St Mary’s despite the Hampshire club getting relegated last year.

His immediate focus will be on helping Martin’s men go up at the first time of asking. However, play-offs are looking increasingly likely for them and they are always a gamble.

It may not matter in the end for Adams though with Wolves in the frame to hand him Premier League football anyway. O’Neil’s side are in action this weekend against Aston Villa.
