Wolves ‘set sights’ on West Ham target who drew Brighton blank

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly interested in signing AS Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar this summer, with a West Ham United transfer battle potentially on the cards.

Although already well covered in the shot-stopping department with Portugal international Jose Sa, Wolves are sometimes hampered by poor distribution. Svilar, who has been Roma's first-choice 'keeper in Europe this campaign, could fix that issue as his passing out from the back leaves a strong impression.

Donning the unusual squad number 99, the Belgium-born Serbia international has conceded just seven goals in 10 UEFA Europa League matches. Svilar has kept four clean sheets and caused Brighton & Hove Albion to draw a blank on March 7. Roma ran out 4-0 victors at Stadio Olimpico that night.

Italian outlet Il Messaggero reports Wolves and West Ham have set their sights on Svilar, who may have to be sold as Roma are in financial difficulty. And there's been a stellar recommendation as Tiago Pinto, I Giallorossi's general manager when Jose Mourinho was in charge, believes the goalkeeper can soar to the top.

"I am very happy for the moment Svilar is experiencing, Pinto told Sky Italia. "I knew him from his time at Benfica in 2017. Then, he came with me to Rome. He suffered a lot and he has grown so much. He will be among the best in the world," Pinto said.

The jury is still out for Svilar as the 24-year-old has played just nine Serie A games throughout the two seasons since signing from Benfica. He has recently replaced Rui Patricio in the starting lineup in the league, however, with six consecutive Serie A starts. His success on the European stage cannot be understated either.
