Gary O'Neil has reportedly asked Wolves to pursue a deal for a La Liga star this summer.

Spanish outlet Fichajes claim that a goalkeeper is what O'Neil wants when the transfer window opens and that he already has a target in mind. They claim that Alvaro Valles is a target with contact already being made according to the local media.

The 26-year-old is currently on the books of Las Palmas and is a big part of what looks to be a successful first season back in La Liga. He has played 31 times in the league this season, conceding just 36 goals and has kept eight clean sheets.

His performances caught the attention of Nottingham Forest, and it was reported that the Reds had an offer of £17m rejected for him in the January transfer window. A departure does seem likely with Zach Lowry claiming 'he will leave this summer' due to the player's refusal to extend his contract.

Club president Miguel Angel Ramirez recently revealed that Valles rejected the chance to sign a new contract, It could make a departure likely this summer and they will be keen to cash in on him rather than lose him for nothing.

Portuguese shot-stopper Jose Sa has been O'Neil's first choice this season but has suffered some injuries this season. Dan Bentley has deputised for him when Sa has been absent whilst Tom King is third-choice.

Sa has kept six clean sheets in 36 appearances this season with four coming in the Premier League. The 31-year-old made his international debut for Portugal in November 2023 but was an unused substitute against both Sweden and Slovenia. He joined the club in 2021 and is under contract until 2027, and so any move for a new goalkeeper would mean potentially the sale of Sa.
