Chelsea have reportedly agreed to re-sign club legend Frank Lampard as caretaker manager until the end of the season, with the deal now all but confirmed. The Blues approached their former captain and head coach with a temporary offer, and he has now accepted with an announcement expected imminently.

Wolverhampton Wanderers face Chelsea on Saturday and there was a lot of uncertainty around who could be in the away dugout. Now, however, with the news of Lampard’s return, there’s some further clarity – he will indeed be available to coach away at Wolves.

According to a host of reports from the likes of Sky Sports, The Times and The Guardian, Lampard will take training at Cobham starting from Thursday. The former England midfielder will then lead Chelsea for this weekend’s fixture, aiming to put an end to The Blues’ torrid run of form.

Wolves, meanwhile, now have a bit more direction for their preparation as Julen Lopetegui can likely refer to Lampard’s tactics at Everton earlier this season – as well as at Chelsea and Derby County earlier in his career. It will be a tough challenge for Lampard to make a mark so quickly, so this could be an interesting clash.
