A striker linked with a move to Wolves in the January transfer window has received some advice from his manager.

Bristol City is the 'best place' for reported Wolves transfer target Tommy Conway, admits his manager Liam Manning.

It was reported in the January transfer window that Wolves along with Brentford and Nottingham Forest were tracking the Scotland under-21 international. Conway is also of interest to Scottish Premiership giants Celtic and Rangers who could offer him the opportunity of Champions League football as well as increasing his prospects of a call-up to the Scotland senior team.

The 21-year-old scored 10 goals in 39 Championship games for the Robins this season, helping them to an 11th-placed finish. His contract runs out in the summer of 2025 and the West Country club have made an offer to extend his stay at Ashton Gate, though that decision will now lie with the player and his representatives.

“It’s obviously not ideal for me. Tommy’s got a decision to make.”, Liam Manning told BBC Radio Bristol

He added: “We’ve made him a terrific offer as a club, I think it’s the best place for him. I totally understand if someone's journey is going miles quicker than the team then I understand the move.

“At the minute he’s at the level where he’s still being challenged. I think he’s put in some good performances, I still think he’s got a huge amount to do and improve and I’m sure he’d agree.”

Conway has been playing regular Championship football for the last two seasons after bursting on to the scene in 2021. He has made 92 appearances for the club, scoring 25 goals, including two against West Ham in the FA Cup this season.

The young striker was a flatmate of Alex Scott who last year joined Bournemouth for a reported £25m, having been a reported target for Wolves when Julen Lopetegui was in charge. He could now be faced with making the same decision that Scott had should any of the clubs act on their interest.

"I think there's real danger sometimes people jump too early," Manning added.

"I think the biggest bit for me is we want him to stay... but at the same time we need a level of commitment to show that he's all in.

"Ultimately, the ball is in his court now a little bit and we'll have to see how that pans out.”
