Several Premier League offers are reportedly on the table for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace and Leicester City transfer target Álex Berenguer.

The Athletic Bilbao winger’s contract expires this June, prompting interest from all across Europe and especially in England. Six times a scorer in La Liga throughout 2023/24, Berenguer has had his second-most productive season in front of goal but he’s yet to renew his deal despite Athletic’s best efforts.

It was reported last month by Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo that Wolves, Palace and Brentford were all keen on signing Berenguer. Now, given his unresolved contract situation, local outlet El Correo claims the recently promoted Leicester City have also joined the race.

The latter report focuses on Villarreal’s interest but it states there are already multiple offers on the table from the Premier League and Serie A. Berenguer, allowed to speak to as many clubs as he likes, is claimed to be open to the idea of staying at Athletic but lucrative contracts abroad could tempt him away.

Berenguer a huge coup for any suitor

Typically a left winger but also able to play on the right, through the centre, or even at full-back, Berenguer would be a versatile addition to any club. The Spaniard has never played for his national team but he’s racked up 27 goals and 19 assists in 166 games for Athletic.

The Pamplona native’s best achievement to date was Athletic’s Copa del Rey title crown this season. Berenguer scored the historic winning penalty to claim victory against Mallorca, ending a 40-year trophy drought. The final had finished 1-1 after goals from Dani Rodríguez and Oihan Sancet.

Berenguer started his career at Osasuna in La Liga 2 and helped guide Gorritxoak Los Rojillos to the Spanish top flight. The attacker scored five and made 12 assists in 84 games for Osasuna before moving to Italian outfit Torino for £6 million in 2017. There he netted 10 and notched another dozen assists ahead of his eventual £10.3 million move to Athletic in 2020.
