Newcastle United could be without three big names ahead of their clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday evening.

Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier remain long-term injury concerns for the Magpies and have undoubtedly been big misses over the course of the last few weeks and months, however, they may now also be without Joe Willock for the game against Wolves.

Willock has been suffering with a knee problem of late and manager Eddie Howe has admitted that it will be a late call as to whether or not the 22-year-old is able to suit up for the contest.

It may not end there for the home side, though.

There has been illness running through the camp of late and with covid infections on the increase again, Howe said that is once again affecting their preparations.

Wolves on the other hand are looking in tip top shape after their 2-1 victory over Aston Villa with just Ruben Neves remaining out through injury.

What has Eddie Howe said about Newcastle’s injuries?

“Joe Willock has a slight knee problem. It’s been there for a couple of weeks, so we’re going to make a late call.

“We don’t think it’s anything serious but certainly he’s become a little bit more aware of it in training and I think it’s something we just need to stay on top of.”

“There’s been a bit of illness in the camp for, I’d say, three or four weeks,” Howe said. “When these things go through your squad you’re always picking up the effects of it,” he added.

“We’ve had some illness this week and players struggling to get rid of things they’ve been carrying for a while.

“Of course, you’ve got Covid as a problem and we have been affected by that in recent weeks.

“But there seems to be an illness going around, maybe not Covid that we’ve suffered with. We’ll wait and see if anyone misses the game.”
