Wolverhampton Wanderers will meet Liverpool for the fourth time since the turn of year on Wednesday night when Julen Lopetegui takes his squad to Anfield looking for a shock win that would boost their hopes of preserving their Premier League status.

The two sides were paired in the FA Cup third round in early January as goals from Goncalo Guedes and Hee-Chan Hwang were sandwiched by strikes from Reds duo Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah in a controversial 2-2 draw on Merseyside. It was Jurgen Klopp’s men that progressed when Harvey Elliott grabbed the only goal of the replay just ten days later as Wolves saw their hopes of securing silverware dashed in front of the Molineux faithful.

However, revenge would be sweet in early February as Hee-Chan Hwang, Craig Dawson and Ruben Neves all scored to give Lopetegui’s men a comfortable 3-0 home win in the first Premier League clash of the two sides this season. The reverse fixture will take place on Wednesday and a similar outcome would see Wolves potentially move six points clear of the relegation zone and continue their solid start to life under the Spaniard.

Why was the original fixture rearranged?

The game was originally scheduled to take place at 3pm on Saturday, September 10. However, all matches across the Premier League, EFL, National League and beyond were postponed following the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II just days earlier.

Why is the rearranged game not broadcast live on television?

The original fixture was not scheduled to be broadcast live via Sky Sports, BT Sport or Amazon Prime and as it fell in the Saturday 3pm kick-off blackout period and was not part of the original TV packages, the rerranged game is unable to be broadcast.

Where can I keep up-to-date with the game?

There is no scheduled Match of the Day highlights programme until the weekend so there will be no highlights of Wednesday’s game. However, TalkSPORT radio have confirmed they will have full match commentary from 7.30pm via their TalkSPORT 2 station.
