Former Rangers and Scotland striker Ally McCoist has questioned Wolverhampton Wanderers’ move for ex-Chelsea star Diego Costa.

The 33-year-old is due to arrive in England within the coming hours ahead of a medical at the gold and black’s training complex, Compton Park.

Loathed by every other Premier League side, the fiery Spain international was a force to be reckoned with. He played a key role in two title-winning sides, with his lethal finishing and snarling, terrier-like presence making him an instant hit with Blues fans. Costa hasn’t played a minute of competitive football since he left his former club Atlético Mineiro in January but could be handed an incredible return to England’s top flight with Wolves.

Bruno Lage has had to act quick to replace deadline day signing Sasa Kalajdzic who injured his ACL within 45 minutes of his debut last weekend.

And whilst Costa has undoubted quality and experience at this level, McCoist has questioned whether he’s the same player now as he once was.

“I want the old Diego Costa back in the Premier League, I’m not sure the one we’ll be getting right now,” he told talkSPORT.

“Injuries have taken their toll. I might be wrong but I don’t think we’ll be getting the Chelsea Diego Costa back in the Premier League.”
