Newcastle United will have to make do without star striker Callum Wilson for the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

Wilson picked up a hamstring injury in the frantic 3-3 draw with Manchester City last weekend and will be out of action for around two weeks.

Speaking ahead of the trip to Molineux, Howe admits that the club made a move for Alexander Isak following Wilson’s latest set-back but reiterated that he still has full confidence in his star forward.

“We’re hopeful Callum will only be out for a couple of weeks but naturally we reacted slightly off of that,” he explained.

“I back Callum 100%. I’ve known him for a long, long time. I’ve never met someone with a better attitude to sport, a better professional.

“He’s hugely disappointed to miss any game. I back him and his body. He’s such an important part of our future this season. I think he’s already shown that with the goals he’s scored, the two goals he’s scored have been at the highest level. I don’t doubt Callum for a second.”

There’s more injury troubles at the other end of the pitch for the Magpies too with Emil Krafth likely to miss the contest.

Howe confirmed that the Swede has picked up a knee problem and will be sent for a scan to determine the severity of the issue.
