High-profile transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto is ‘tempted’ by a possible move to Arsenal.

The Gunners have ramped up their interest in Wolves’ Portuguese starlet in recent weeks but with five-years left on his current contract at Molineux, the ball remains firmly in the gold and black’s court.

According to Romano, Neto is Arteta’s ‘first choice’ target and will stay that way right up until the window closes on September 1.

The issue that Arsenal have is that they need to sell before they can buy, something they are struggling to do and the longer the wait goes on for them to sell, the better for Wolves.

Speaking to BetVictor on the current transfer dealings up and down the country, Romano gave an update on the current status of Neto.

“The Portuguese is a first choice on the Arsenal list as a new winger,” he explained.

“First we need to complete the negotiation for [Nicolas] Pépé to OGC Nice on loan, now almost done; then, Arsenal will focus on new winger with Pedro Neto tempted by this chance but not an easy deal with Wolves, at all.”

Transfermarkt has Neto’s current value down at just under £29million but it would likely take a bid in the region of £50million for the hierarchy in the West Midlands to even begin to entertain the possibility of a sale.
