West Brom man makes 'too much respect' admission when assessing the club's attitude this season
Albion regular admits he felt a shift in mentality this season, where the Baggies were paying too much respect to Championship opposition.
Jayson Molumby claims Albion boss James Morrison is trying to rescue a ‘no-fear, dominant’ mindset at The Hawthorns after respecting opposition too much this season.
Molumby has been stand-in Baggies captain in recent games as resurgent Albion, now six unbeaten, push for survival in a horror Championship campaign.
The 26-year-old Irishman, in his fifth season at the club, revealed he has felt Albion give “too much respect” to rivals for the first time in his experience this season.
Both Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay were axed from The Hawthorns this season, the latter after a winless nine-game stint, and midfielder Molumby added that the squad’s feeling towards the popular Morrison has helped with the U-turn.
“I think when you respect someone so much as a player and as a person it does add extra layers onto that, for sure,” Molumby told the Express & Star.
“He's got so much respect from everyone because of how he is, who he is, what he's done. We're obviously happy playing for him and motivated to get points for him.
“I think he's brought back a sense of pride and a no-fear sort of attitude with West Brom.”
Molumby said in his experience previously Albion have expected to be the dominant side looking to take games to opponents and pick up wins in the second tier.
He said: “At West Brom, it's probably the first year that we've went into games respecting teams too much, whereas I've always had the mindset and attitude playing for this club that you're expected to win every game, or you're expected to compete and be dominant in games.
“It's certainly been a different challenge but I think Moz is trying to get that back.”
The Baggies have endured their poorest season in decades when at one stage just a few weeks ago relegation to the third tier for the first time since 1993 looked a very real possibility.
Morrison has led the Baggies to 10 points from his seven games at the helm and six games unbeaten since an awful opening defeat at Oxford, where the caretaker delivered a public dressing down.
Only Coventry (13), Norwich (13) and Derby (12) have taken more points in that spell.
“It's hard to process when you're in it,” Molumby said when asked about Hawthorns unrest this term. “You're just trying to crack on with whatever the manager, interim or new manager sets you up for his way of playing.

“But we all know Moz. I've known Moz since I've been here. Listen, he's a legend of West Brom. He's got everyone's respect here as players.
“We know him really well and he knows us really well and I think the fans sort of come along as well.
“Listen, Moz has probably been chucked in the deep end a bit when the club's been really low and struggling.
“He's had to put in a massive effort and shift and all the staff have behind the scenes.”
