'Do your job' - James Morrison fumes at West Brom set-piece woe

One particular bad habit really annoyed Albion’s head coach during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at bottom side Preston.

Irritated James Morrison demanded his players stick to their jobs after dropping points in a frustrating draw at Championship basement boys Preston.

It was the manner of North End’s late opener in stormy conditions at Deepdale that really irked the Baggies boss, as home captain Andrew Hughes turned in at the back post from a corner.

Super-sub Aune Heggebo hit back immediately for a point but Morrison wanted all three.

Set-pieces have been troublesome for Albion all season. The Baggies have been zero threat from balls into opponents’ box and the simplicity of the hosts’ goal left the head coach disappointed after work on such situations, with roles assigned.

"We obviously had the ball before the corner,” Morrison told the Express & Star. "Twice - JJ (Morgan) gave it away, Oussie (Diakite) gave it away.

“The set-play we weren't in the right positions.

"If we're in the right positions at the front then we clear that ball.

"And then obviously stay with your men in the box. We didn't stay with our man in the box and the lad puts it in.”

Albion fell behind for a sixth match on the spin but showed more character, with defeats in just two of those. Morrison’s men are three unbeaten and have rescued 11 points from losing positions this term.

Albion’s Chris Mepham also shared his annoyance at the manner of the goal Albion conceded.

But it is a trait the head coach agrees is worrying, though he believes momentum will help kick the habit once Albion go ahead.

Morrison’s main gripe was with more set-piece woe and he added: "In the game we defended them well, they had a few corners we defended well.

"That concentration, that's all it is, doing your jobs, sticking to it. I think the feeling and emotion in the game can affect you with that.

"But it can't. It has to be full concentration. You've been designated a job - do it."

Defender Chris Mepham added his frustration to the situation, given Albion worked on set-pieces prior to training on Friday.
