James Morrison was unsurprisingly left delighted with his players after what he described as the best performance of his reign.

James Morrison hailed an Albion performance that “had everything” in a sensational 3-1 win at West Ham.

The Baggies delivered a statement result in one of their best performances in recent memory to sweep away the stuttering hosts.

Top-class goals from Felix Horn Myhre, Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Callum Styles settled the contest on a day to remember in front of 3,000 euphoric travelling Baggies fans. It was the first time Albion have beaten a side in the current top 12 this season.

Asked by the Express & Star if that was his most enjoyable day in the role since February, Morrison replied: “Yes - in terms of performance yes. I thought we had everything today.”

The head coach was beaming on the pitch afterwards as he embraced his impressive players and celebrated in front of the away end.

He said: "It was a tough game coming here but I think the belief the lads had in themselves at the start, sticking to the game plan, being able to take the ball under pressure.

"We scored at the right times and I think it was a complete performance.

"I was happy with how we played with the ball. I was really happy with the defensive structure, I think the goal came from a run of play with a bit of (their) Premier League quality.

"We limited them to one shot outside the box, an overhead kick coming in the 85th minute. Watching them previously I thought they'd been unlucky at times.

"Especially the Southampton game, I thought they had some big chances and I was wary of that threat. But the lads were able to take the ball, take the sting out the game, and with the fine margins of scoring at the right times.”

The decision to start with Morgan leading the way proved an inspired choice after Morrison resisted the temptation to turn to Aune Heggebo. Morgan was belatedly credited with last weekend’s Preston equaliser instead of Heggebo.

Morgan, now outright top scorer again, is up to seven for the season as Horn Myhre scored and assisted and the instrumental Isaac Price played a part in all three goals on a day of devastating Albion attacking.

"We spoke about the spaces in the middle of the pitch,” the head coach explained.

"We played through them and we had JJ on the top line because I felt the physicality of the two centre-backs would probably eat up our two big lads (Aune Heggebo and Barney Stewart).

"We needed someone clever, running in behind, and when it comes off like that.”

Morrison added of the goals: "Being unselfish - playing it across and for Felix being in the right space.

"The second goal - the composure. And scoring off a set-play helps!

"It was a great finish actually, looking back on it.

"He's deserved that. He'd gone six games without a goal and claimed one off his backside.

"He had a hand in two goals and that finish shows what quality he's got.”
