Boost for West Brom joint top-scorer after review changes Saturday's Preston equaliser

One of Albion’s forwards is unexpectedly up to six goals after a review to change Saturday’s scorer.

Albion forward Jimmy-Jay Morgan’s goal drought has ended in belated style after he was credited with Saturday’s late equaliser at Preston.

Morgan had been without a goal in six games prior to the trip to Deepdale but what appeared to be Aune Heggebo’s 82nd minute strike to immediately cancel out the opener has been switched to his strike partner.

Morgan was just in front of the goalline, near goalkeeper Daniel Iversen’s left post, when Heggebo’s fiercely struck shot from close range lashed in.

The goal was subject to a check, which takes place via the EFL’s dubious goals review, and decided the ball touched Morgan on its way into the back of the net.

Clubs and officials submit teamsheets after each fixture detailing statistics. If there is a discrepancy it is raised by the league’s independent official data provider.

Footage is then reviewed by the referee and sent to senior officials and the key match incident panel for review. The data is returned to clubs and changed if required.

Morgan, the summer signing from Chelsea, has seen his tally for the season rise to six as he moves level again with attacker Isaac Price.

Heggebo was up to four goals for the season after recent heroics against Wrexham, Blackburn and Preston all from the bench, but is now back down to three.
