Pete O'Rourke, a transfer correspondent for Football Insider said in a Twitter post on Tuesday that the Baggies had made an enquiry to Preston for Keane. According to our friends at the Lancashire Evening Post however, they believe that West Brom went one step further and did submit an offer for Keane. Their offer was described as 'low' and was swiftly turned down and since their offer was rejected, they have not returned to the table.
As for Keane’s current situation, he was an unused substitute at the weekend in North End’s 3-0 defeat to Swansea City. He played 65 minutes in their opening fixture, and then also played against Sunderland but wasn’t used against the Welsh outfit.

Keane’s contract with PNE expires at the end of the season, and so at some stage he will have to sit down with his club bosses to discuss his club future. Last season, he scored 13 goals in 38 Championship matches, in what was his career best season at this level.
The 31-year-old's best return was the 26 goals and six assists he registered in Wigan Athletic's 2021/22 League One title win. His overall record in the Championship is 33 goals and eight assists in 157 games.
