It turns out the Happy Valley Sergeant had some inside knowledge on rumours West Brom manager Carlos Corberan was set to take over Leeds

West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan has signed a new four-year contract with the club allaying any fears the Spaniard was about to leave The Hawthorns and join Leeds United.

Since Leeds sacked Jesse Marsch on Monday, February 6, Corberan was the bookies’ favourite to take over from the American at Elland Road after his fine performance as Albion’s head coach so far this campaign.

West Brom are currently fighting for promotion in the Championship having undergone a remarkable turnaround since Corberan took over from Steve Bruce when the side were in the relegation zone, and Baggies fans will be delighted that the former Huddersfield Town coach has chosen to extend his stay in the West Midlands.

Just before West Brom announced the news that Corberan had signed a new deal, the club hilariously tweeted a clip from the BBC drama Happy Valley to provide a hint that the Spaniard wasn’t going anywhere.

The video, which you can see below, has gone viral and has been viewed 4 million times. It features a clip from the show of Sarah Lancashire’s character Catherine Cawood saying to someone: “Why’s everybody pretending you’re going to Leeds when you’re not?”

Shortly after the tweet, the club revealed that Corberan had signed a new deal which will keep him at The Hawthorns until 2027.

‘Tweet of the year’

The BBC family crime drama, which is set in West Yorkshire, aired for the final time on Sunday, 5 February, after becoming one of the most popular British television shows in recent years - and the club’s tweet was certainly well received by social media users.
