West Bromwich Albion could be lining up a late deadline day move for Southampton striker Adam Armstrong, who has also been linked with the Baggies’ Championship promotion rivals Sunderland and Middlesbrough.
Reports suggest that the 27-year-old striker, who has scored 32 goals in 142 games for Southampton since signing from Blackburn Rovers in 2021, was the subject of a loan enquiry from West Brom, who are also expected to complete the permanent signing of young striker Tammer Bany on Monday.

West Brom could provide a potential destination for the forward, who can play as a central striker or on the left of a front three, although the finances involved in a deal may present a stumbling block if the Baggies do decide to pursue a deal.
Armstrong’s Mowbray reunion may have to wait
Signing a new striker had been a priority for new manager Tony Mowbray, and Armstrong is well-known to him as he was under his charge during a highly productive spell at Blackburn Rovers, where the forward scored 58 goals in 151 Championship games.
Southampton appear to want a significant financial incentive to let him leave, however, with West Brom ‘in the know’ account Eya We Gew claiming that the Saints have demanded an up-front fee and for the Baggies’ to make a 70% contribution towards Armstrong’s wages, which “might be a sticking point” in any negotiations.

The status of Karlan Grant could also have an impact on whether Armstrong arrives, with both Burnley and Derby County reportedly interested in making a move for the 27-year-old – although initial indications are that Grant is likely to remain at the Hawthorns.
Palmer set for exit as West Brom face frantic deadline day
Any hopes of a calm conclusion to the transfer window were shattered on Monday morning when news broke that first-choice goalkeeper Alex Palmer had travelled to Portman Road to undergo a medical ahead of a potential £5m move to Premier League side Ipswich Town.
The Baggies are now in the market for a last-minute replacement for Palmer, and may recall Josh Griffiths from his loan spell at Bristol Rovers to compete with Joe Wildsmith for the starting spot if another glovesman can’t be found.
