West Brom player ratings vs Derby County as only ONE player scores above a 6

An evening to forget for West Brom who were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the second round stage for the second successive season.

West Bromwich Albion were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the second round stage following a 1-0 defeat to Derby County.

Steve Bruce made 10 changes going into the contest with only Dara O’Shea retaining his place in the eleven from side that beat Hull City 5-2 in the Championship.

But the players that came in did little in the way of earning themselves a start for future contests as they struggled to get any real rhythm going throughout.

Here’s how BirminghamWorld rated the performances on Tuesday evening and they don’t make for pretty reading.

Alex Palmer - 6

Made a couple of really good saves to stop Derby extending their lead. Couldn’t do anything about the goal.

Ethan Ingram - 5

Struggled against the pace of Derby’s wingers and was hooked at half-time, though, that seemed harsh.

Kyle Bartley - 6

Better of the two centre-backs.

Dara O’Shea - 5

Had a rough time against David McGoldrick. Probably would have rested O’Shea for this one.

Zac Ashworth - 6

Had a solid enough performance without doing anything stand-out.

Jake Livermore - 6

Expect better from your captain but can’t be blamed for an all round sub-par performance.

Taylor Gardner-Hickman - 5

Blazed a shot into row Z with one of the last kicks of the game which summed his performance up.

Matt Phillips - 5

Blazed a shot of his own high and wide following good work from Callum Robinson.

Callum Robinson - 7*

Was always the most likely to score and whilst he probably should have, at least he was actually creating opportunities.

Adam Reach - 5

Looked lively early on but faded badly and missed a glorious chance to score in the first-half.

Reyes Cleary - 6

A solid enough performance from the youngster. Had no support behind him.

Subs

Tom Fellows - 5

Missed a golden opportunity to score. Will be kicking himself.

Grady Diangana - 6

Showed a bit of pace and trickery when he was brought on but still failed to create anything too much.

Karlan Grant - 6

Had a cute little nick late on that nearly found the net.

John Swift - 6

Passed a ball across goal when he probably would have been better off shooting. Was a decent opportunity looking back.

Jed Wallace - N/A

Wasn’t really on long enough to make a difference.
