Mason Holgate ‘disappointed’ with Norwich City draw

West Brom drew with Norwich City at the weekend by a score of 2-2. While the Baggies rattled off more shots than their opponents, they ultimately had to settle for a point - something that Mason Holgate was not happy about.

Holgate, who is currently at the club on loan from Everton, called the result ‘disappointing’, believing that his team should have picked up all three points.

Speaking in an interview on West Brom’s official club website, Holgate said: “There’s no better feeling in football than scoring goals and I think, to get an early goal, was a positive for us and it set us off in the right direction. Ultimately, we didn’t carry on and it was a disappointing result but I think that shows how good we are as a squad that, Norwich are a very good team, and we’re disappointed with drawing against them and it’s something we’re not feeling as positive about.

“I think we switched off for a 20 minute period in the first half where they scored two, but I feel like we controlled the majority of the game. Ultimately, we had control of the game for a longer period of time than them and I think the result’s better for them than it is for us - which shows what direction we want to go in.

“We’ve lost the joint least amount of games in this division, which obviously shows we aren’t an easy team to take points off and it just feels everyone is disappointed because we drew today. It just hasn’t clicked yet and that just shows what kind of quality is in there and when it does click, because the Championship is so tight and if you win three in a row, the table can and will look completely different.”

Jon Newsome says Daniel James can ‘fill the boots’ of Crysencio Summerville

Leeds United have a Crysencio Summerville-shaped hole in their squad, after he left the club to join West Ham United in the summer. They have been looking for a replacement - but Jon Newsome thinks they already have one.

Daniel James has been a strong performer for the Whites this season, having scored two goals and notching up two assists in the Championship in 2024/25. Newsome called him ‘unplayable at times’ and praised his ‘unselfish’ mentality.

Speaking with BBC Radio Leeds, Newsome said: “He is a great player and he is the one that will fill the boots of Summerville. I think he is the one, if he gets the run of games and keeps fit.

“He’s too good for the Championship in my opinion and I think he was unselfish today. He was unplayable at times today, and his work rate and his pace, defenders think they’ve got time and he nicks the ball off them.”
