Next Leicester City manager: West Brom boss 'one of the favourites' as release clause revealed

West Brom manager Carlos Corberan is ‘one of the favourites’ for the recently vacant Leicester City job.

Leicester parted company with Cooper following a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend. it was a result that left them a point above the relegation zone. with Wolves, Ipswich Town, and Crystal Palace all below them picking up points over the weekend.

According to Guillem Balague, who has provided coverage on Spanish football to Sky Sports and the BBC, Corberan is one of the favourites to succeed Steve Cooper in the King Power Arena hot seat. Balague interviewed Corberan ahead of the EURO 2024 final between England and Spain.

West Brom transfer insider Dood (@EyaWeGew) has poured cold water onto the rumours, however. He says that both David Moyes and Graham Potter are ahead of him in the pecking order and that the Foxes are ‘concerned’ over the buyout fee for the Spaniard.

The 41-year-old is under contract at the Hawthorns until the summer of 2027. He has been in charge of the Baggies since succeeding Steve Bruce in October 2022, and has so far managed them for 101 games, winning 45 of them which has given him a win percentage of 44.55%.

Leicester City were linked with a move for Corberan in the summer but opted to appoint Cooper, who had been sacked by Nottingham Forest almost a year ago. This summer it was claimed that Corberan has a buy-out clause close to around £4m.

The markets currently have former Chelsea boss Graham Potter as the favourite with David Moyes in second. Ruud van Nistlerooy who was recently the caretaker manager of Manchester United is also someone of interest; it was reported last week that the Dutchman was holding out for a job in the Premier League.

An appointment is expected to be made this week given a busy fortnight of fixtures awaits Leicester. They have four matches over the next two weeks, and Telegraph journalist John Percy says they hope to have someone in by this week, ahead of their trip to Brentford.
