West Brom are ‘still keen’ on Leicester City striker Tom Cannon, despite his summer loan switch to fellow Championship side Stoke City, according to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon page. Sheffield United have also been credited with an interest.

The Foxes hold an option to recall the attacker in the January transfer window. He was given the green light to head out the exit door on a temporary basis to join the Potters to get some regular game time under his belt.

Cannon, who is 21-years-old, has since scored four goals in six games in all competitions and they all came in the same game against Portsmouth. He is due to spend the whole campaign at the Bet365 Stadium as things stand.

However, West Brom and Sheffield United are being linked with a winter swoop. Leicester would have a decision to make if a big-money bid came in for his signature.

Cannon rose up through the academy ranks at Everton and was a regular for them at various different youth levels. He went on to make four first-team appearances during his time at Goodison Park.

The Republic of Ireland international was loaned out to Preston North End for the first time and went on to score eight times in 21 games. That form earned him a permanent switch to Leicester last year following their relegation to the second tier.

He was part of the Foxes’ side who won the title last term under Enzo Maresca. The Aintree-born man found the net on three occasions in 18 outings.

Stoke City hotshot

Cannon then linked up with Stoke on deadline day and said at the time: “Stoke City is a massive club, with an exciting young team and I’m absolutely delighted to be joining. I’ve had loads of messages from the supporters. I’m feeling the love from them already and being appreciated at a Club is massive. I’m hoping I can get off the mark as soon as possible and repay them with goals. What they will see is me working my socks off and being up for it, and when I get an opportunity, I can put it away.”

Meanwhile, their Sporting Director Jon Walters said: “It’s no exaggeration to say that most clubs in the Championship wanted to sign Tom this summer, so it’s a huge vote of confidence that he has opted for Stoke City.

“His arrival is testament to his faith in the squad we are building and in the way he believes we can develop him as a footballer, and I can’t wait to see him representing our club on the field. With the signings we have made this summer adding to the attacking quality we already had in the building, we believe we now have the firepower to climb the table and enjoy a successful campaign.”

Time will tell whether West Brom will be able to lure him to the Midlands at any point in the near future. Carlos Corberan’s side are back in action after the international break next weekend with an away trip to Oxford United.
