Experienced striker turned EFL pundit Don Goodman is tipping West Brom to compete for the Championship play-offs again.

Hide AdGoodman was a player at the Hawthorns from 1987 to 1981, and made more than 150 appearances. He would later cross the divide by joining Wolves in 1994 after spending three-years at Sunderland, before winding down his career with the likes of Motherwell and Walsall.
The 58-year-old is one of the leading commentators for Sky Sports' coverage of the EFL, with Goodman offering expertise on all things to do with the Championship. He's been giving his predictions for the upcoming season, and has praised the work that Carlos Corberan has done.
Corberan guided the club to a fifth placed finish last season, but they ended up losing to the eventual winners Southampton. The Spaniard had to work with just loans and freebies last season, but with the arrival of Shilen Patel, it is hoped that he will have some money at his disposal.

"He always finds ways of being successful, even in adversity when working with no money at both clubs. He's done a brilliant job, but he's always been firefighting in a way."
Three first-team signings have arrived over the last few weeks with two free transfer signings and one for a fee. Ousmane Diakite and Joe Wildsmith have joined from TSV Hartberg and Derby County on a free transfer whilst £500,000 was apparently paid to sign Torbjorn Heggem from Swedish side IF Brommapojkarna.

Despite the uncertainty over the futures of some of their players, and whether there will be much money to invest in to the squad, there is still an expectation to match last season's achievements. Last season's finish of fifth was their best since their relegation in 2021, having finished 10th and ninth in the previous seasons.
Goodman added: "Carlos had a squad at Albion which remained pretty consistent, but now he's released nine players with five over the age of 30. Two young players have been recruited, but we still don't know how much money is available to be spent.

"But purely based on Carlos' tactical nous and knowledge of the Championship, I can see them challenging for the top six again. It would be disappointing if Albion didn't."
