According to Ecuadorian outlet Teradeportes, Cardiff City have been in talks over the last week with the Seagulls over the possibility of signing Sarmiento. His father is said to be pushing for a move over concerns over his playing time.

The Bluebirds aren't the only team said to be interested in signing the winger, with Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen interested in launching an ambitious swoop. Ipswich Town could also consider re-signing him following his successful loan spell at Portman Road last term.

Sarmiento was recently involved at the 2024 Copa America in the United States, and will be afforded a break before he is expected back for pre-season with Brighton. He played in all four of their matches and was on the score sheet in Ecuador's 2-1 defeat to Venezuela. They lost on penalties to eventual winners Argentina following a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes with Sarmiento taken off in the 76th.

Madrid-born Sarmiento was on loan at West Brom for the first part of the 2023/24 season before being recalled. He scored twice including a winner against Cardiff, as well as an effort against Middlesbrough, contributing to a 4-2 victory.

Sarmiento, a left-sided winger, played 22 times for Ipswich, notching up four goals and two assists as he helped the Tractor Boys finish second to win automatic promotion to the Premier League. It is unsure what Brighton's plans are for Sarmiento with Fabian Hurzeler replacing Roberto De Zerbi in the dugout.

In other news, reports of Andi Weimann returning to Watford have been played down. Last week it was reported by an Italian outlet that Weimann was 'set to sign' for the Hornets, but the Watford FC Buzz Podcast has since played that down.

According to talkSPORT, West Brom were interested in a reunion, but he is also holding talks with Austrian side SK Sturm Graz and Udinese, with the latter being owned by Giampaolo Pozzo, whilst his son owns Watford.

The 32-year-old had two separate loan spells at Vicarage Road, and scored four times in 22 games. He later returned to Aston Villa, before departing in 2015 for Derby County, and then had a loan spell with Wolves, before spending six years with Bristol City.

During his six-month loan spell at the Hawthorns, Weimann got two goals in 13 games. He started four matches, and then came on as a substitute for the other nine.
