West Brom 'closing in' on reported £2m Birmingham City target

The Baggies are set to complete the acquisition of versatile Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles following weeks of speculation.
It was revealed last week that Styles, a 23-time Hungary international, was moving closer to leaving Oakwell Stadium with a Championship club in advanced talks. As West Brom held an interest, many assumed it was them. It turns out that it was.

Hide AdOur sister publication, Yorkshire Post, reports Styles is now “set to complete a move to West Brom” after terms were agreed between the player and two clubs. The Hungary international will depart Barnsley following an eight-year stay in South Yorkshire.
West Brom are set to seal their man ahead of one of their local rivals as Alan Nixon reported in July that fellow West Midlands side Birmingham City held a strong interest. The player was keen to say his farewells to League One in favour of a move to the Championship, though, bringing an end to Blues’ chances.

The terms of the Baggies’ soon-to-be completed deal await to be seen but Styles was reported to have a release clause of around £2 million, while Barnsley were keen for a player in return if that fee wasn’t matched.
Capable of playing pretty much anywhere in midfield or even as a wing-back, Styles will be a versatile option for Albion. The 24-year-old will be keen to return to form, bouncing back from a failed loan at Sunderland, where he played just 808 minutes.
