"I have an announcement to make to everyone," he said on Instagram.

"I have decided to retire from my active career at the end of this season!

"I've done it!" is how I honestly feel right now. Being able to continue playing soccer until I was satisfied was the happiest active career I've ever had!

“I’ve been able to get this far thanks to the clubs I've been a part of, the managers, coaches, players, front staff, sponsors, and the supporters who always pushed me forward!

"I owe it all to the people I've been involved with. Thank you so much! I can't find words other than gratitude!

“If I could, I'd hug each and every one of you. From now on, I'll be starting my second life, but I'll do it while enjoying it in my own way!"

His 27-year playing career will come to an end at the end of the season in Japan. He currently plays for Nankatsu SC who play in the fifth tier of Japanese football.

Inamoto was the first Japanese player to play in the Premier League after joining Arsenal, and later playing for Fulham and West Brom. He was signed from Gamba Osaka for a small fee of £200,000.

He was signed by Gary Megson, but he only lasted until October, and was succeeded by Bryan Robson. Inamoto was loaned out to Cardiff City for the remainder of the season, but played regularly after returning from his loan.

The midfielder ended up making 32 appearances over the space of just over two seasons for the Baggies, before being signed by Turkish giants Galatasaray. He would later play for Eintracht Frankfurt and Rennes, before spending the remainder of his career back in Japan.
