A player that was all but set for a move away from West Brom is now moving to a different Championship team.

Brandon Thomas-Asante will be leaving West Brom, but will instead be heading to Coventry City after they reportedly hijacked his transfer.

Thomas-Asante looked to be heading to Hull City after a deal was agreed on Tuesday (July 30) but according to Football Insider, Coventry City have come in with an 11th hour offer which is believed to be higher, and worth around £4m according to WBA transfer insider @EyaWeGew.

He has been granted permission by the Baggies to complete the transfer and is now on his way to Coventry to undergo a medical and finalise a move at their training ground, with everything to be done today.

According to Owuraku Ampofo, a journalist for FlashScore, and Ghanian outlet #3Sports, George Boateng, a former midfielder for Aston Villa, who had the pleasure of playing for both Coventry and Hull, played a crucial role in convincing him to move to the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Either way, West Brom are set to get a significant profit from the £300,000 that they paid to Salford City in August 2022. As part of the agreement with Coventry, the League Two club will receive some money from the transfer.

Carlos Corberan will be able to reinvest the money back in to the squad as the Spaniard continues his overhaul. Thomas-Asante’s departure does leave a gap up front with the forward finishing as the top scorer at the Hawthorns for the last two seasons. He had 12 goals in 43 games in the Championship last term, and now a forward will be on the agenda. Josh Maja and Karlan Grant are the only two options available right now with Daryl Dike on the sidelines with an Achilles injury.
